Special Fundraising Sale

Last night I participated in an auction to raise money for a family who lost their 5-month-old daughter, Madeline, to a Congenital Heart Defect. The auction was put on by my amazing friend, Shelby, from Shelby's Sassy Bows. There were many wonderful items, and Shelby was able to raise over $800 to help with funeral expenses and medical bills. I was so excited to be a part of the auction, and thought we could raise more for the Weigel family, so I've decided to offer all the items I contributed to the auction to anyone who wants them for the price the item went for in the auction. 100% of what you pay will go to the Weigel family.

Here are the items, along with the amount they went for. Email me at cathy@cathyscreationsjewelry.com with your order and I will send you an invoice.

Purple Rain $30

Floral Explosion $35

Pretty in Pink $28

Sterling Bling $31
Note: I don't have any more Swarovski crystals in these colors,
so when you order, please choose two other colors

Ring $12

If you'd like to help the Weigel family but aren't interested in a bracelet, click this button (found here and in the sidebar).

James and the Penguin Plunge

Check out this guy.
Doesn't just looking at him dressed like that in the snow make you shiver?

His name is James, and he's raising money for the Special Olympics
by...wait for it...
Jumping in to the Atlantic Ocean
on February 6th
IN NEW HAMPSHIRE!

Do you have any idea how cold it is in New Hampshire in February?
Let's just say in the last 5 years
it's been somewhere between -4 and 30 degrees Farenheit.
And that's the temperature on LAND.
The water has got to be ridiculously cold.

But James, and many other brave souls, will be taking a dip that day
and then hopefully getting his core temperature up
before his fingers and toes fall off.

So, Frikes, you know me. I love a good cause!
Let's raise some money for the Special Olympics
(which is a fantastic cause).
Here's the deal:

Donate to James and you'll get a discount on anything in my shop.
Donate $10 and you'll get 10% off.
Donate $25 and you'll get 25% off.
Donate $50 and you'll get 50% off.
Get the picture?
and listen to this: Donate $100 and you get a free bracelet!
Hell, I'll even give you two.

Donate to James by visiting his FUNDRAISING PAGE
and then email me at cathy@cathyscreationsjewelry.com to
tell me how much you donated. I will then send
you a coupon code that can be used on an order placed in my Etsy Shop

Easy, huh? Ok, now go donate. I'll wait for you right here....

Blood Donor Giveaways Update

Two quick (awesome) updates to the Blood donor giveaways.

Remember THIS post where I announced that Alison Vogel had purchased a bracelet to giveaway to someone who donated blood this month? And that everyone who donates blood and posts a pic to the fan page is entered to win?

And remember THIS post where I announced that everyone who gives blood this month gets an awesome t-shirt?

And remember THIS post where I announced that Shelby Bushwyler had purchased two Baby Emily's Heart bracelets to giveaway to a child with CHD and a blood donor?

Phew, that's a lot of posts, a lot of generous frikes and a lot of giveaways. But I digress....

Many of you (way more than I expected!) have mentioned to me that you can't give blood for one reason or another. Well, the lovely Shelby had a great idea. If you can't donate, why not organize a blood drive? Admittedly, it's a lot of work (which I know personally, working to arrange one at my place of business), but what a wonderful gift you could give to those in need of lifesaving blood.

Shelby is offering to buy a bracelet for two people who take on this task. ANY BRACELET from my shop. That's generous, frikes! Think about it. Go for it.

Secondly, I have decided to give blood donors a choice of prize.

You may choose this awesome shirt (in a size of your choice):
Or this newly designed bracelet:

That's it for now! Now go donate blood! You will never know how important your donation is!

MORE Bracelet Giveaways. :)

We have ANOTHER generous Frike (Shelby Brushwyler) who has donated two bracelets to this month's giveaway.

This giveaway is close to Shelby's heart because the Baby Emily's Heart Bracelet is named after her sweet daughter who died after 10 short days from a congenital heart defect. Babies with CHD depend heavily on blood donations, so the more Frikes that donate, the better!

This video tells Emily's story. Grab the tissues.

Shelby donated two Baby Emily's Heart Bracelets, one for an adult and a child-sized one for a CHD child. Again, all you have to do to be entered for the adult bracelet is donate blood and post a picture on my fan page.

For the child's bracelet, just comment on this post if you have a child with CHD or would like to nominate a child you know.

Bracelet Giveaway

A wonderful Frike (ahem Alison Vogel cough ahem)contacted me to donate this bracelet to one of the Frike Lifesavers this month! So now, not only do you get an awesome t-shirt for donating blood, you get a chance to win the Blood Donor Hero bracelet.

Just do what I'm sure you're already planning on doing: make an appointment to donate blood, take a picture of yourself donating (or of your bandaid) and post it on the Cathy's Creations fb fan page!

Thanks for being so generous, Alison!

Frikes* Saving Lives!

Happy New Year, Frikes!

2010 was a great year here at Cathy's Creations. We opened our Etsy shop in April and started our fb fan page soon after, which is great, but the most rewarding thing about this year has been raising awareness and money for so many wonderful causes.

And now we're starting 2011 off with a bang!

We have a new Alzheimer's Awareness Bracelet in the shop. A portion of the proceeds benefit the Alzheimer's Association, whose main goal is to find a cure. Anyone with a loved one who has suffered from Alzheimer's Disease knows how important this is.

We're also working on a Japanese braiding technique for making necklaces called Kumihimo. The result is beautiful, and can be seen in our Blue Kumihimo Necklace. There's only one available, so act fast!

The thing I'm most excited about in January, though, is that it's National Blood Donor Awareness month!

Every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood. More than 38,000 blood donations are needed every day. Sickle cell disease affects more than 80,000 people in the U.S., 98 percent of whom are African American. Sickle cell patients can require frequent blood transfusions throughout their lives. More than 1 million new people are diagnosed with cancer each year. Many of them will need blood, sometimes daily, during their chemotherapy treatment. A single car accident victim can require as many as 100 pints of blood. The number of blood donors in the U.S. in a year: 9.5 million. (All information comes from redcrossblood.org.)

We have a new Blood Donor Hero Bracelet in our shop that is not only gorgeous, a portion of its proceeds benefit the Red Cross.

But here's the best part. I've pulled some strings and stuck a deal with a screen-printing company who has agreed to help me with something:

Every Frike who donates blood this month gets a t-shirt!

Imagine how many lives we can save by donating blood this month! All you have to do is post a picture on my fan page of yourself giving blood, or your band-aid, or you with your "I gave blood" sticker.

Now get out there and donate. Visit redcrossblood.org to find a blood drive or set an appointment. You'll be glad you did, and you might even save a life.

*"Frike" is a term combining "Fan," "Friend," and "Like." I made it up and am proud of it! Click HERE to see the definition in Urban Dictionary.
