One last bracelet giveaway and a HUGE thanks

This has been a Breast Cancer Awareness month like no other.

I started out wanting to make four bracelets, one to give out each week of October.

Then came the Save Second Base T-shirts (which again, I planned to give out once each week).

Then came a friend offering to help with the Save Second Base T-shirts, making it possible for me to choose a winner every day.

Then the emails started, with wonderful crafters and vendors offering their works to this great cause. I can't even describe how much this touched my heart. I had too many offers; so many that I had to put some of them off until the my next giveaways.

Please join me in thanking them. Join their pages. Visit their sites. Consider them when you're buying gifts or spoiling yourself. I'm going to try to list them all; if you notice I missed one, I promise it's not intentional, just send me a message and I'll add it.

Jackie from The Sweet Spot Bakery
Jessica from Jessica Rae Jewelry
Brenda from Four Daisies Quilting
Christina from Scenterrific Scents
Kayla from Kayla Boyle Photography
George from My Uterus
Stephanie from Apricus Designs
Stacie Lemieux
Mary from Mary Originals
Jenn from JMFX Photography
Susie from Avon
Sara from Longaberger
Cara from Bubbles and Bows Boutique

Thank you all for your generosity and selflessness. And thanks to all my frikes for being so supportive of this endeavor!

And now, we have one last bracelet to giveaway! I'll be drawing a name tomorrow (October 30th), so comment on this post, write on my Fan page wall or comment on any of the Cathy's Creations statuses. Good luck!

Save Second Base Giveaway EXTRAVAGANZA!

It's so sad to see October come to an end; I've had so much fun doing giveaways in the name of Breast Cancer awareness. We'll have to find more causes to celebrate in the future.

To celebrate the culmination of all the giveaways, along with the T-shirt a day giveaway, I've contacted my awesome friend Jackie at The Sweet Spot to create some delicious items for us. (Go, look at her page and "like" her. Go now, I'll wait here.)

First off, I will choose one person per day to receive 3 sets of these Cake Ball Boobs (that's the technical term, just in case you were wondering)! Don't they look delectable?

3 sets of boobs. One winner. Every day. You know you want in on that.

Second, look at these amazing chocolate-dipped oreos with pink Breast Cancer awareness ribbons! One person per day will win 6 of these babies. I'm salivating just looking at them.

All you have to do to be considered is visit the Cathy Creations facebook fan page and comment on any of my status updates or write on my wall. Feel free to comment more than once, but each person who comments will be entered just once per day. Check back each evening for winners, and make sure to comment every day to be entered!

And don't forget to visit The Sweet Spot fan page and The Sweet Spot Blog. Jackie's stuff is amazing.

SNEAK ATTACK

And the winners..yes, plural.

Stacie donated 2 of these purses...surprise!!

Jacki Earnest Nielsen

April May June
(We know you are in the witness protection program but we know who you are!)

Please email me at cogrady2003@ yahoo.com (without the space) with your mailing address.
Congratulation to both of you and a big
THANK YOU to Stacie Lemieux

I have been contacted by many amazing and talented Frikes that would love to donate one of their creations. They ask nothing from me. I feel that the least I can do is promote their page and beautiful creations.

Yesterday I was contacted by one of the Frikes, Stacie Lemieux. Stacie has much talents, one of them is making gorgeous children but the other is sewing very pretty purses. She offered to donate one because she was moved with all the outpouring this page has seen lately. Stacie doesn't have a fan page to promote or an Etsy site. She is donating a purse in honor of all the loved ones we have lost to breast cancer. For the awareness that comes from us..not some actor.

We all make a difference...thank YOU Stacie for being one of our Frikes with a huge heart!

I feel guilty for not directly answering "my kids". Please don't think I don't love those twins more than anything in this world.

But, what makes me tick is creating things with my hands. It is who I am. Whether it is knitting something to cover someone I love in warmth, cross stitching a design onto a sweatshirt to make my daughter happy, baking a batch of cookies to feed friends, forming chords to sing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Carl" to my son while playing guitar, or holding a camera in front of my face to capture a memory for all time with one click of my finger, I am happiest when giving a piece of myself to someone through my own handiwork.

I believe that crafts should be passed down person to person, not necessarily through books. Learing something at the hands of another human being, passed down perhaps through generations, is such an important life lesson. I hope to be able to give my abilities and gifts to Carl & Gretchen over the years and have them continue on creating for loved ones

Bear with me today, as I am feeling all weepy and questioning myself.

I always felt that everyone needs to give more then they take. I understand that sometimes that isn't possible so we carry the ones less fortunate then us.

I also know that one thing that my wonderful mom instilled in me was that you should always give from the heart., never regret, never question and never mention it. Today I broke my mom's rule..I questioned...but not for long. A wonderful friends voice reminded me what is important. <3

So...what makes me feel great is giving. Please leave a comment on what makes you tick and puts a smile on your face.

I will choose the next winner for the bracelet from the comments below.

To my amazing frikes:

I have been so touched by the outpouring of love I've seen over the past couple of weeks. I envisioned this month as a time when I could help to spread awareness of the horrible disease that took my mom from me; you all have helped to turn it into a time of selflessness, of giving, of support, of joy, of action. Those of you who know me personally know that I am rarely without words, but this month I have been speechless many times. Oh, and you also know I never, ever cry or piddle. ;)

Now it's time for me to tell you something about myself. This is hard, so bear with me.

I have a really hard time taking compliments.

When I do giveaways, sometimes it's out of the goodness of my heart, but sometimes it's because it's good, easy advertising.

When I make cause bracelets, it's because I see a need for more awareness. When I sell one, I give a portion of the sale to a charity that corresponds with the cause, because I want to practice what I preach and support research.

When we did Jillian's 30-day shred, I started with you all and gave up during the third week because it was too hard. So when all of you who completed it finished, I couldn't pick just one to receive a bracelet; I was so impressed with all of you that I had to make one for each of you.

Today has been really tough, reading all the stories of women who've lost precious babies. I'm so glad that each of you had a space to share your stories; but again, after reading them all, how could I pick just one person (or 8 people) to give bracelets to? Put yourself in my position; you couldn't have done it, either.

So when I read all the comments on my posts about me being amazing, it makes me cringe. I don't do this for compliments. I don't do this so people will like me. I do it because I feel a tug in my heart to do it, and I've learned to always follow those tugs.

Yes, I feel things very deeply. Yes, I love people with my whole heart. Yes, I have empathy for anyone who is suffering or in pain. But if I could do all of this without my name being attached to it, I wouldn't change a thing, in fact, I'd do more.

A dear friend has tried to teach me that it's hurtful when I don't take compliments in the spirit they're intended, so I'm trying to do better. It's going to take a long time, and it's hard, but I'm working on it.

So here's what I'm asking of you. Tell me thank you, tell me I'm funny, tell me you love me. Tell me how beautiful the bracelets are, tell me how much you want a shirt (you know who you are). Tell me how you support the causes I support. In return I promise I'll take your compliments in the spirit they are intended, and be gracious. And I'll try not to twitch. :)

But I'm not amazing. I'm just doing what I feel in my heart, just like I hope everyone does. If you don't already follow your heart, why not start now? It's never too late.

Thanks for being my frikes. <3

I found you through DWM, I loved her blog, and the first time I opened up your FB page, I fell in love, your creations are amazing, and so much thought and love go into every single one. My transaction with you for my Mom's bracelet sealed the deal, you have a customer for life. You made it so easy, and have such a HUGE heart, if only other businesses followed in your footsteps. I would love to give this to her, she is such a tough lady, she just won't let it win!! Thanks for the opportunity, Cathy!

(Please email me at cogrady2003@yahoo.com)

Cathy, I really know how you feel. My mother didn't make it to the five year mark. We only found out it came back when she had a seizure. When her cancer metastasized it was in her brain, her forehead and long bones. They gave her 6 months and she lasted 9, she was a young 60 when she passed. There is nothing so brutal to live through than to see a love one have seizures, I would't wish is on my worse enemy. I miss my mom every single day. What makes the anniversary of her passing so unique is that she never got to see my brother come home healthy after having a heart transplant (he got 10 years to watch his children graduate high school). Watching two loved ones on the brink of death at the same time is difficult, especially when the death of a stranger leads to the recovery of one. My Randy also loves the grandmother he only knows through pictures and stories.

Thank you all for your kind words. I'm sorry to read so many stories of how cancer has affected so many lives.

I will be creating the 2nd October Giveaway bracelet this weekend. Make sure to check back often.

First October Giveaway!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, which holds a very special place in my heart.

My mom, Sofia, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1977 when she was 45 and I was 11. Although I was so young, I can recall the fear on my mom's face and the tears that accompanied the diagnosis. She proceeded to have a full mastectomy, followed by chemo and radiation. She would continue to go for check ups every 3 months, 6 months and eventually yearly. The doctors told her that the magic "5 year" mark would be when they would list her as "cancer free". Never did she make it to the 5 year. She was short a couple of months. Her second breast would be removed and the same routine would continue only this time her chemo was stronger. She was sick...very sick but she was strong and fought her way back.

The dreaded "5 year" mark would be in arms reach when the cancer metastasized to other parts of her body. Same routine...same outcome. After 20 years, I lost my best friend. The most wonderful, caring, gentle woman. We got 20 years with her and for that I was grateful. She was able to see her children marry and have grandchildren but she should still be here so see the grandchild that only knows her by the picture on my wall and point and say "that's my Yia Yia and I love her"

Cancer is not prejudiced. It doesn't care how old or how young you are, how rich or poor, what color your skin is, or whether you are male female.

I will be giving away a bracelet each week this month, and this is the first! All you have to do to enter is comment on this post between now and next Friday (10/8) at midnight. One comment per person, please. Winner will be chosen Saturday (10/9).
