This week at Cathy's Creations, we're promoting awareness for Pancreatic Cancer and Lung
Cancer.
Lung cancer is the second-most commonly diagnosed cancer in both men and women. However it is still the most common cause of cancer death because it is difficult to diagnose in its early stages. You can learn more about lung cancer by visiting the American Lung Association website.
Pancreatic cancer is one of the most deadly of all types of cancer. This year 38,000 Americans will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and about 34,000 will die from it. Despite the high mortality rate, the federal government spends woefully little money on pancreatic cancer research. You can learn more about pancreatic cancer by visiting the website of the Sol Goldman Pancreatic Cancer Research Center.

ReplyDeleteMy great-grandmother on my dads side and my grandmother on my moms side both died to Lung Cancer. One at the age of 40 something (also had breast cancer), and one at 72... :(

ReplyDeleteMy grandfather doed from lung cancer. When he was dying it was so scary to see him hooked onto all kinds of machines to help him breath and stay alive. I remember the weight of just seeing him lying there in that bed.
He was a beautiful man. He used to play checkers with us with old glass coke bottles instead of actual checkers. He had this very fat black cat that was so quick to purr. He always had candy waiting for us when we would visit, as well as huge smiles ans love.
It sucked the way he died. A lot. He was a loving man, a special man.
If I won this I would have to give my mom the prize to honer her dad and to share the love.
Cathy, it is awesome of you to bring light and awareness as you do. You are such an amazing woman! I love you!

ReplyDeleteMy step-mother battle for 9 years with first kidney(removed one) cancer, then the bladder cancer(which they had to remove), breast, and eventually succumbed to brain cancer. But she also fought lung cancer twice in this time. Not once did she complain, whine, or feel sorry for herself. It will be 9 years tomorrow and there is not a day that my heart doesn't ache for her to be here, to know all of my children.......thank you for doing this and I am going to donate. <3 you O'Grady.

ReplyDeleteJust a few years ago my MIL lost 1 lobe of her left lung to cancer. It was discovered early due routine screening after she survived breast cancer.
I lost my Dad to lung cancer at the age of 45. It will be five years next week, on the 15th. Never has a day gone by that I don't think of him, and think of how unfair this has been. He would have been Papa for the 5th time yesterday to another beautiful baby girl. He gave us all of the best parts of him. I see so much of him in his grandkids. I know he is with us everyday. I watched my 48 year old mother battle Pancreatic cancer for a year, it is a horrible disease. One week after my 30th birthday my mom lost the battle and passed away..It has been 3 years and I miss her everyday :(
ReplyDeleteMy family lost an amazing woman to lung cancer on Feb. 8th in 2007. Two days after she celebrated her 59th birthday. She was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in September of 06 and we found out it had spread to her liver as well as her bones. Our family has never been the same since. She was the glue that bonded us together! I miss and love you so much Susan!
ReplyDeleteGreat give away! Lost my dad to pancreatic cancer. He went in the hospital the day my oldest son was born (he's now 7) was diagnosed a few days later and died when my son was 6 weeks old. It's such a horrible disease and I hope no one ever has to watch a loved one die from it.
ReplyDeleteMy Aunt is a lung cancers survivor. She had surgery and is as good as new, she had it done about 4 yrs ago and she's alive and kicking.

My grandpa (mom's dad) died from lung cancer when I was very young. I don't remember him but my mom still misses him as if he died yesterday.

My papa passed away last September from lung cancer. He was going in for screenings every January for the past 4 years but somehow they missed the cancer. In March he was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and immediately began chemotherapy treatments after having surgery to remove a large tumor on his brain. He did wonderfully until the last week in August and then started going down hill - fast. By the 10th, my sweet papa passed on.
ReplyDeleteI hate that anyone has to go through this or to watch a loved one go through it. My heart aches for Daddy and I pray that I never have to face losing another one of my family from any form of cancer.
My grandfather died from Pancreatic cancer, and my father from lung cancer. This cause is near and dear to my heart. Thank you, as always, for bringing attention to these very important causes. You are a rare gem, Cathy. <3

ReplyDeleteMy aunt died of lung cacner. When the found it, it had started to spread already. She went thru chemo and they were in between treatments and told her they had high hopes thinking it was getting better a week before she was supposed to start her next round of chemo she passed away.
ReplyDeleteShe was the most amzing woman, her son (my cousin) had a stroke about 10 year ago and she had been taking care of him, When she passed she left my uncle and cousin. He is in his 30s now and mentally hes all there but physically hes bad. My mom quit her job to move in and help my uncle and cousin so my uncle could keep his job.
I dont care if i were to win or not i just want there to be more research for a cure for all cancers... way to many amazing ppl are lost every year.

ReplyDeleteThank you for all you do to raise awareness. The items you and your frikes so generously give are beautiful. My uncle died of lung cancer leaving behind two beautiful little girls and a wife that adored him. He was my grandparents oldest of eight children. He had been feeling poorly and they found shadows on his lung and did surgery and found the cancer had spread through his entire body. They closed him up and gave him 3-6 months. He fought as hard as he could to stay here with his girls, but sadly only 8 months later he passed away. He never smoked a day in his life and was in excellent health before being robbed by the cancer monster. It breaks my heart that my cousins had to grow up without their Daddy and that my Nana had to bury her son. Cancer robs the whole world of the potential each person has.

My mother's personal trainer went to the doctor because he was having some back pain. They did some tests and found out that he had stage 3 lung cancer. It was kind of shocking for everyone that he could go from healthy and fine one day to being given a couple months to live the next day. The good thing is that so far the doctors have been wrong he outlived there predictions by a couple years now.

ReplyDeleteMy grandfather passed away from lung cancer way too early. My grandmother hasn't been the same since his passing. Lung cancer affects the entire family, not just the individual suffering from it.
